Man On Fire (2004)

An old friend gets a job for Creasy (Denzel Washington) who did some work with him, to watch over a young girl of a rich family during a rash of kidnappings in Mexico. He is reluctant because of all the killing he has done working for the Central Intelligence Agency but he accepts and gets closer to her. She is taken by someone he doesn't know in a skirmish that sends Creasy to the hospital.  There are small touches brought in that make this realistic and kewl: his bout with alcoholism for instance. Movies tend to highlight something that will be important later but here that hackneyed technique is missing and I liked it, sometimes a caged bird is just a caged bird. A lawyer and an eroded conscience turn out to be the villain in MAN ON FIRE. You can't help but feel exultant when the hero in this film goes out to make things right. [4.1 stars]
