Upper class families of New England send their privileged kids to Welton to get ahead and be the doctors and lawyers of the next generation. Then John Keating (Robin Williams) shows up as a teacher and puts all that aside and tries to make them live their lives before they die. One lad takes risks for a girl at another school, one takes a shot at acting. The teacher is having an impact on them and they question authority where they may not have before. Keating is unconventional and gets in the way of their tradition. The father of the boy who acts in a play is furious and this leads to a witch hunt to extirpate undesirable elements in the school. DEAD POETS SOCIETY is inspiring and a reminder of how we can fall asleep when we're awake. I find his first moments with his new students unforgettable. Seize the day my kewl friends before we become too conservative. [4.3 stars]
