Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977)

This is right up there with 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY since its subject matter has, not just a global but a galactic impact. Richard Dreyfuss plays one of a small group of people who may have been chosen.  Who is he chosen by and for what reason I cannot get into without giving too much away. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND tips you off at the beginning that there may be something strange going on when a ship that has been missing for many years suddenly appears where it shouldn't be: the Gobi Desert. It becomes increasingly apparent how it got there when we see a flying object make radios act weird and move objects around as if it was creating a very large magnetic field.  This movie has one of the greatest endings ever made: the kewl meter has a boner: it puts you in a state of wonder and you try to see the possibility of what the movie is showing which to me is the role films should play.
