A young man in India named Jamal is detained from the quiz show where you can win a million dollars because they think he is cheating. How could a boy from the slums know all these things. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE tells the story one question at a time going back to his years of growing up and then returns to his interrogator where it started. The action scenes reminded me of CITY OF GOD and perhaps the director had that in mind when he was shooting it. There is a romantic link that is seen developing but it is weakly executed and you never get why it is that they find in each other a connection. I found the dynamic between the young man and his brother kewl: they go separate ways and the seeds of that are formed early. This flick is a trip as you never know what is going to happen next.
