Blood Simple (1984)

A noir crime involving some people from Texas. BLOOD SIMPLE relies on misinterpretations and misunderstandings by the characters in the unravelling of its story but it is delicious and doesn't overdramatize its actions which is its calling card, showing violence with understatement, not having to announce to the audience with musical cues. Another arrow in its quiver is the double cross. Not everyone in the flick is so trusting and this leads to some kewl events and it keeps the audience off guard. I love the laugh of the detective at the end, it seemed to sum up what the movie was trying to do. [4.1 stars]
