This is supposed to be to football what PLATOON is to Vietnam. We are thrown into the bowels of professional football and witness a veteran quarterback come to grips with his age and a young hotshot (Jamie Foxx) who tries to make his own rules out of naivete. A real football linebacker is part of the cast (Lawrence Taylor) and his presence in the story I think helps ANY GIVEN SUNDAY make its case for believability. The team makes it to the playoffs and one of the kewlest halftime speeches is given by the head coach (Al Pacino) which is hard to watch while holding a dry eye. I rewound that speech to watch it three more times. It inspires and touches at the roots of the reality of football. Beware, this film is loud! [4.2 stars]
