The Matrix (1999)

Superb science-fiction film with philo-sophical implications. High production value make a story of cyberspace come alive as a computer wizard named Neo is sought by a band of rebels who tell him the real world is controlled by machines.  The viewers are left to contemplate their own existence and ask what does it mean to be real. I personally thought of the man in Plato's cave. Kewl climactic fight scene has your heart beating, with the freedom of humanity at stake. Terrific lines by a character called Morpheus who thinks Neo is the ONE. Heroic images appear and reappear in your memory every bit the rival to the STAR WARS trilogy, but THE MATRIX goes on to do its own trilogy never to surpass the mastery of the original. [4.9 stars]
