An epic journey (207 minutes in black & white) of seven ronin in feudal Japan hired by farmers to protect their crops from bandits. Long sequences of raids make for an engrossing film despite the poor acting by some which definitely is unkewl. Nobility of spirit holds sway as the first samurai who was brought in displays thoughtfulness and courage and it is he who engages our attention and is the reason why SEVEN SAMURAI is included here. I would follow him (in real life ) around and behold how impressively he handles situations. [4.2 stars]
