North By Northwest (1959)

Spy caper starring the dapper Cary Grant whose snappy dialogue propels this puppy into the land of kewl as we watch Hitch direct one of his best films.  NORTH BY NORTHWEST slowly wraps us in into its plot twists and exciting ending at Mount Rushmore. By the way, its not really the mountain you are viewing, it's a backlot reproduction.  Grant plays an advertising exec who is mistaken for someone else and is soon abducted and comes into harm's way.  Eva Marie Saint adds sex appeal and soon finds herself wrapped in our leading man's arms as she plays a dame under control of our villain, Van Damme played by James Mason (remember LOLITA). We soon learn that she may not be a willing accomplice and the truth of her character soon gets messier.  I love the tense relationships created in this film--at any moment Grant's character might go over the edge and kill someone. Everything is here, chases, bullets, comedy, sexiness, danger and intrigue. Get your popcorn ready. [4.3 stars]
