Dawn Of The Dead (2004)

A scary chunk of cinematic pie.  A city undergoes an epidemic of monstrous proportions.  Cars are overturned, fires are blazing, people are running for their lives as some kind of zombie disease has the place in chaos.  The plot follows a few characters who flee the flesh-eating menaces. The zombies are not like the first DAWN OF THE DEAD (directed by George Romero) ones, they have special effects connected to their prowls, which saves the movie from the dulldom of Romero's flick.  Here the zombies are hauntingly kewl and pose a threat to people's existence. They are not traffic cones which fall over if you breathe on them. There's a scene borrowed from the original movie involving a truck which I think stalls this suspenseful film for a bit but it picks up traction due to a possible contamination among the healthy. It only goes to prove the dictum that a good villain=good movie, watch STAR WARS and see if you agree. The 2004 remaking will forever turn the concept of the mall as safe and family-friendly on its head! [4.1 stars]
