An adored film for its winning characters and story. THE SHAWSHANK RE- DEMPTION is a prison flick portraying a banker, a lifer and an unfeeling war-den. I like some of the dialogue in it which is further etched in me for some of its unforgettable lines, especially Red's response to the parole board near the end. Red is played by Morgan Freeman who narrates throughout the picture, which is really not a kewl device to tell a story in cinema but here it is not as ob- jectionable since it helps to develop the main characters. What sets this piece of art from the others is that it the viewer feels rewarded and it sprinkles in pro- fundity about hope and life. One of those films you won't mind sitting down to again and again. [5 stars]
