Memento (2000)

Wonderfully-crafted motion picture of a man named Leonard who tries to piece his life together in the aftermath of a violent incident involving his wife. He has memory loss and the director chooses to tell us in reverse order how we got to the point where the movie begins, as he spins a tale of a man searching for the truth of his past. You meet some people he knows but soon you learn that these people are not who they appear to be. Superb directing as a web of intrigue and suspense engages you into honing in on who actually is the villain here. MEMENTO always seems intelligent and that it wishes to place you in a reasonable position from which to judge what unfolds. Every moment you must be awake to what is happening or you might miss an important clue, sheer mastery. There is a kewl moment I enjoyed when I had to react quickly to what I saw which would completely change my understanding of what I had been believing previously. At that moment, you want to stop the film and go back and see those scenes again. [5 stars]
