Valerian And The City Of 1,000 Planets (2017)

A simple people living on a paradise have their peace obtruded by a battle involving people we learn about later. A young government worker named Valerian has a dream where he sees these paradise citizens but is not sure what to make of it, if it is the future or the past. He tries to woo his pretty co-worker but she isn't into guys who talk highly of themselves. These two have a boss who assigns them a case where they retrieve a stolen converter from Mul. Now the flick gets interesting. I liked how they use a kewl invisible matrix that others around them can't see but allows them to visualize the extra-dimensional market they have infiltrated. The Commander (Clive Owen) wants the converter to bring to an important meeting about a possible contamination of Alpha the metropolis of many nations. Valerian and his cutie pie take the converter for his safety. The paradise people show up looking for the converter rightfully belonging to them but Valerian doesn't know this yet and chase them in a chase scene of galactic proportions. Stunning visuals here. Somehow Rihanna had to be put in VALERIAN & THE CITY OF 1,000 PLANETS so there's a scene slowing down the action involving her and then we're right back to the action where Valerian has to save his stolen lady, who he has asked to marry by the way, sorry so much to describe. In the harum-scarum plot twists we realize that the Commander didn't tell everyone about his murky past (involving the paradise people) and our heroes are once again in jeopardy. Visually breathtaking but a few bumps in the road. [4.3 stars]
