Rush (2013)

Director Ron Howard takes us into the the Formula One circuit through the rivalry of two young race car drivers who can't stand one another. One is a Brit (Chris Hemsworth) who is a bit of a playboy but the other is a more technical and serious Austrian whose name is recognizable, Niki Lauda. We follow their lives, their wives, down through the years and learn about why these men go to such lengths to drive like madmen in machines that go at unsafe but exhilarating speeds. RUSH is aptly titled as it is a rush to watch this and slowly crawl inside the characters and their cars. There are a number of shots from the driver's seat that are terrific and the racing scenes are as kewl as hell. I walked away with more understanding and appreciation as to what mettle it takes to do what they do and the amount of commitment it takes to withstand the pressures at racing's highest level. [4.2 stars]
