On the heels of what is arguably the best ever Star Trek film comes STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and delivers it does to what Star Trek television fans expect of their space- exploring characters. The captain of the futuristic vessel which worms through space at warp speed, Jim Kirk, is played by Chris Pine and the half-human half-Vulcan first officer, Spock, is played by Zachary Quinto. The drama in this one is driven by Khan, yes the very nefarious Khan from the television program. He was frozen for reasons the movie explains and now has been thawed which creates the spark for all the action, tense and abundant, in this story. Khan is an excellent villain and intelligent which casts rays of awesome cinematic happiness as I watched the film, on the edge of my seat, come to its thrilling ending. It is well thought-out and has enough moments of humor and depth to join the preceding Star Trek movie in these pages of kewl, for Spock's display of logic, for Kirk's brashness, for the surprise shrieking of "Khan" on-screen, for the ripples of what our future may someday look like.
