Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014)

The human race is dying and apes are roaming around in the beginnings of what appears to be the formation an ape nation. Caesar is alive from the last film RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and is the leader of them. This leadership is soon contested by Koba when humans appear. Koba distrusts the humans and would rather fight them while Caesar is more tolerant and wishes to avoid conflict.  The high moments of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is how humans and apes have a similar history, Cain murdered his brother unleashing man's dark side in our early history, not to get too religious here. There are real ethical dilemmas here that I grappled with and the film makes that a bridge to walk into the feelings of its characters and thus stand in their shoes as they attempt to solve them. Even more intense is the struggle the human survivors face as they are no longer giants of commerce and industry. There is a flu epidemic which makes their already difficult questions as to what is the best course of action in sharing the planet with the apes even more problematic. Terrific effects and kewl battle scene. [4.2 stars]
