A band of would-be criminals go to Turkey to rip off treasures from Topkapi Palace. Due to a last-minute snag they have to bring in a small-time hustler (Peter Ustinov) to drive a car over the border but little do they know that he talks to customs who suspect that a vile plot is being planned so they use the hustler to spy on the criminals. The way the gang devises to get the valuables is one of the kewlest things about TOPKAPI and not just that but the way they plan to dispose of the riches to avoid capture while going over the border is also brilliant. I enjoyed the confidence of the mastermind (Maximilian Schell) behind it who is recruited by a lovely woman who has worked with him before. Wait for the human fly!! [4.4 stars]
