Crimson Tide (1995)

Russian rebels have gained control of nuclear launch sites leading the United States military to send a submarine carrying nuclear weapons to prevent the rebels from taking aggressive action. The captain (Gene Hackman) is hawkish and his executive officer (Denzel Washington) is more prudent.  This contrast seizes hold of the audience as it plays a major role in determining if war breaks out between the two countries.  CRIMSON TIDE is a full-impact thriller as you strap it on and race with it to its exciting conclusion.  Torpedoes are shot, there's a mutiny, a fire and there is danger at every turn which gives it many kewl points in my book. I would not and could not take a commercial break and thank God there weren't.  Satisfying ending. [4.6 stars]
