A captain (Tom Hanks) of a cargo ship is threatened by pirates of Somalia when his ship, the Alabama, is alone on its route around the horn of Africa. If this sounds familiar to you, it is since this happened in real life. The United States Navy have to get involved and the captain uses his wits to keep his ship safe while reinforcements are on their way. The story made headlines but I don't think knowing the ending will take away from the punch CAPTAIN PHILLIPS has to offer. Kewl ending as the captain is in shock and it freaked me out when there were close ups. Drama is tense and it needs a release and the ending delivers it. [4.9 stars]
