Bugsy (1991)

Mob man Ben Siegel (Warren Beatty) flies to 1930's California and doesn't want to go back because he met a woman who fascinates him, Virginia (Annette Bening) who seems to find the same attraction to him. What a life he "Bugsy" leads. He walks into a home unannounced and carries $60,000 with him and asks the owner if he is happy with that, then he sees a car, likes it, and moments later he buys that too and starts driving it around immediately. We all wish we could strut around the world like that. Siegel now establishes his "business" in the area and has a vision in the desert. What a treat it is to follow him around. There are killings, there is violence, there is tough dialogue, there is love and sex, everything is packed into BUGSY that you would want. I found his sticking to his principles (wife and new starts) kewl for a gangster and part of the allure. Definitely one of my favorite cinematic characters. [4.8 stars]
