America grew up when it comes to our attitudes towards war, after we absorbed PATTON into our culture. Played by George C. Scott, General Patton takes us out our family-friendly straightlaced views of the reality behind wars and what the mechanisms that run them actually do. He is unique and fills the screen with personality and would do so even if there wasn't a world war to heighten the importance his words and actions might have. The echoplex loop of trumpet calls used to evoke the battles of yesteryear was a stroke of brilliance and lives with me whenever I try to recall the film and the man. Classic and kewl stuff that stays with you. [4.5 stars]
