Noir thriller starring Tom Cruise as a precrime (police) officer in the year 2054, where murders are prevented by precrime technology. Three people know the future and their mental images are used by the authorities in a controlled condition to find the scene of the crime before the crime occurs. Meanwhile an official of the Justice Department (Colin Farrell) oversees the precrime operations to see if there is human error. He finds illegal drugs in the officer's apartment and also learns that officer (Tom Cruise's character) is the one who is next predicted to kill someone. Things look bad. He must spend a good portion of the movie clearing his name during which we see some kewl glimpses of our future including a mall that scans your retina as you walk in. I liked the plot, based on a story by Philip K. Dick, for its nice pace and originality: I never knew what was coming next and enjoyed that I didn't. MINORITY REPORT also has a splendid performance by Max Von Sydow. [4.8 stars]
