A bunch of bad guys don't seem so malevolent when they talk about cheeseburgers and sentimental gold watches. This is the hook that runs throughout PULP FICTION, the noir crime flick that ain't so noir. The closest thing to a plot is a boxer (Bruce Willis) running from a drug kingpin who wants him to dive in an upcoming bout. Willis later meets up with his foe and spares him from "unspeakables." The highlight for me was not any of the violence, and it is violent shall I remind you, is the date scene between Uma Thurman and John Travolta. Dialogue is kewl and top-notch, where else are you going to see Ed Sullivan impersonators introduce the king of disco. [4.8 stars]
