A long film that goes by without you being aware of it. Winner of best picture at Oscars and deserving of it for its influence. LAWRENCE OF ARABIA tells the story of T.E. Lawrence and his activities as an officer in the British army. I thought it was kewl to see how under-stated he was and how quickly he sizes up people with no regard to the conse-quences. You learn that it's this quality that gets him places and makes him a subject for a motion picture. The desert is the other notable character in this film, its beauty, its ubiquity and dangers be- come personified really, and the director makes it less a something and more a someone who is brought closer to our eyes and ears. Anthony Quinn is unfor-gettable and has some great lines as Auda Abu Tayi. By the close of the film you realize how small we humans are and why we fall short of what we truly could be. [4.9 stars]
