Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Finally we get to Steven Spielberg's canon to turn up a stirring dilemma: should we care about the war or about a mother. Spielberg directs, a man who has influenced children everywhere, but here in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, we're in an adult arena, a war film about a mission to bring a private (Matt Damon) home from World War II because his three brothers have already been killed in action.  One of the kewlest fight scenes at the beginning depicting American troops taking Omaha Beach. I just got the DVD to see it again, awesome man. Some good dialogue about life and war keeps it entertaining and the concluding scene has impact because it involves a bridge which has strategic implications for the Germans. Private Ryan satisfies us with his decision and the dilemma we face is solved. [4.9 stars]
